Nighthead (/nighthead/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Menû Keni Kingdom, Damozajiu County, within the Kingdom of Helsteria.

The name Nighthead is derived from the Sylvin language, as Nighthead was founded by Ya̋chīy Mp̪féch 'Izzy Marissa' Cúónḱ Gawm Nīs Swales, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Nighthead has a yearly average temperature of 23°C (73°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 27°C (80°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 19°C (66°F). Nighthead receives an average of 224 cm/y (88 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Nighthead covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 6288 m (20629 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Nighthead was founded durring the early 17th century in early winter of the year 1632, by Ya̋chīy Mp̪féch 'Izzy Marissa' Cúónḱ Gawm Nīs Swales. The establishment of the new community went well, though many minor issues had to be solved as time went on. This was enough to delay construction and push back the formal opening ceramony, leading to some embarisment for Ya̋chīy Mp̪féch 'Izzy Marissa' Cúónḱ Gawm Nīs Swales.

Nighthead was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 17th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Nighthead is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Nighthead is is constructed arround a series of crampt gravel mainstreets which form overlapping circles, with smaller strait roads linking the circiles to eachother at varrious points. The town lacks any defencive features, though certainly constructing even a simple fence or digging a ditch is at the forefront of the 's mind. At least, one would hope so.

A quick look in any direction shows Nighthead is filled with vices. There are many taverns, brothels are advertising their services on the streets, cardsharks are plying their illicit trade within public squairs, and every shop has at least three signs advertising various sales on goods. That alone wouldn’t be too noticeable, if it wasn’t just so omnipresent and overwhelmingly how the people of this town live.

Civic Infrastructure

Nighthead has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Nighthead. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Nighthead's parks.

Nighthead has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Nighthead.

Nighthead has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Nighthead has a Guild of Nurses, which is tasked with caring for the elderly and infirm in accordance with local ordinances, religious values, and customs.

Nighthead has a Department of Firefighters, which is responsible for organizing fire fighting efforts during a fire and enforcing local ordinances relating to fire safety.

Nighthead has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Nighthead has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Nighthead's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Nighthead possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Nighthead's grid is powered by a direct leyline tap.

Nighthead has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Nighthead's natural decorations nor waterways.

Nighthead has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Nighthead has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Nighthead has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

While Nighthead might ostensibly be ruled by some other power, real control lies with the senior members of the local craft and labor guilds. Their decisions have the practical weight of law, and much of their time and effort is spent squeezing out competitors and parceling out economic opportunities in the community. Some guilds might have little or nothing to do with their original trade, and now exist purely as shells for political influence.

Nighthead's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is inspired by the natural world, characterized by sinuous, sculptural, organic shapes, arches, curving lines, and sensual ornamentation. Common motifs included stylized versions of leaves, flowers, vines, insects, animals, and other natural elements. Decorative elements found on the inside and outside of buildings include intricate mosaic work, curved windows, and decorative trim work. .

Nighthead's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in autumn and involves drinking to channel Abjuration energies of tier 3 via proclamations.
